Fertile Hills

Palouse Hills, Near Palouse, Washington

Southeastern Washington is characterized by gentle rolling hills covered by wheat fields and is somewhat reminiscent of Tuscany. The hills were formed over tens of thousands of years from wind-blown dust and silt from dry regions to the south. This photo was taken from Steptoe Butte, one of the few tall hills in the region. The 360° view allowed me to see good shadows and a small town nestled among the hills. Such views simply aren’t visible from ground level.
