Grand Canyon Winter, South Rim, Christmas morning
This was a very special Christmas when we stood on the canyon rim early in the frigid morning. Snow had fallen overnight, and the temperature had dropped way below freezing. The storm was still lingering and clouds hung heavy over the canyon. At first it didn’t look like there would be any good photos, but just about the time I was thinking about packing up and heading for hot coffee and a warm fire the clouds began to move, and I decided to give it a bit longer before heading in to thaw out my cold feet and hands. Suddenly the clouds parted, and the sun lit up the rocks and layering of Cheops Pyramid. Then, in just fifteen minutes, the clouds returned for the entire day.
